You may find that opening up a room gives you amore functional floor plan with better flow and light. If you have a room that is better suited to be incorporated with another space you might consider this option.
Before Opening Up A Room
As you can see, This is a very small house. The dinning area is stuffed against a wall having to be moved out every time it was needed. On the other side of that wall was a bedroom that was not needed. We looked at the possibilities of opening up a room by removing a wall or two and turning that space into a dinning room perfectly situated right off the kitchen and flowing into the living room while maintaining a defined space.

After demolition of the walls, we were able to see that at least one of the walls was load bearing. We needed to create a support beam spanning the open area for support. This meant that a column would have to remain on the corner where the two walls met for support. It actually turned out beautiful as we incorporated arches over the openings on both walls.

Once all the wall studs were removed and the support beam was in place, the framing for the arches needed to be designed and installed. At this point it’s all taking shape.

Now it’s time for forming the arches and covering it all with drywall.

With the drywall complete, custom hand made column millwork was created covering the structural support and was duplicated on both ends as well for a symmetrical appearance.
